Realms (Released 6/10/2022 )
Now this is a very old project that I had worked on but I thought it was worthy enough for me to post it here since it made me realize how much I love to do level art.
Its hard to remember much but I do remember this. I helped create the visions for our level concepts and refined them if I was given the thumbs up to make a phase 2 sketch. After that I was tasked with making out level prototype based on another teammate sketched down. After that we went into Beta and I was tasked with making the Forest level. I was given pictures of Halo 3 Forerunner maps to use as a reference. I made a Whitebox (the screenshot of this has sadly been lost in time).
After that I was given the green light to move into to next phase of development. I started to make custom meshes and implement the textures that our artist had made for the level and then went through and set up the lighting, I will say that the lighting was not my best work when it came to lighting the inside, but I was still a novice and had learned a lot after this. During the last week before release date I had to find and make foliage for the level as the artists were overstraining themselves with other tasks.
The lesson I can say I learned from this is to always leave room for options. The level that I worked on was meant to be much more larger scaled that it is in the final product, the reason for this is that had an estimated gameplay time, so we had to make cuts.
Level prototype for Desert level the original idea was that Realms was goiing to be more of a platformer, i made is level with the idea that it will take place in between a canyon, where the platform sections were outdoors and combat indoors.
Sketch of the Forest level. The basic idea is how i wanted to make these sketches was to base the outline off of the dice that are used in DnD.
This area i wanted to keep it completely geometrical. The one big reference that I used for this area was the mission was The Library in Halo:CE for it linear pathing and verticality.
For the outdoor area if the forest level i wanted it to look more “whimsical” and vibrant and have the temple be a contrast to it.
